Keller is a sweet, happy and outgoing Staffie who wins people over on sight with his adorable looks and charm. He lives with lots of other dogs but he isn’t a trusted pack member as he will, for no reason we can tell and not very often jump another dog. He doesn’t get vicious like most bullies when they attack and can be quickly distracted but for this reason should be an only dog or never unsupervised with other dogs. He is great with people, adores children and would be a great addition for a family. He is always happy and does a little happy tippy toe dance that shows his joy for life when he sees people he knows will give him attention.
Although he is deaf, Keller has learned to use his voice since being in his foster home and has a cute little song he uses when he needs something or is just overjoyed for some reason.
Dogs who are deaf are not harder to train, just different.
A dog has a sense of smell 1,000 to 10,000 times more sensitive than that of a person depending on what breed it is. When a dog smells something, it can tell a lot about it; it is almost like reading a book. When deaf dogs rely on their nose and eyes, these senses become more acute. It is important when grooming a deaf dog not to cut off its whiskers, as dogs use these to sense the distance of things around them. To him, or her, the world is what it is.
The ideal way to communicate with ANY dog is with body language and energy. Dogs need fewer words, more hand signals, along with a confident owner who can send calm yet firm vibes to the dog. A dog will feel this confidence in them and will respond accordingly.
